It is estimated that buildings and infrastructure currently account for <strong>approximately 40% of energy-related CO\u2082 emissions<\/strong>, while <strong>material production and end-of-life disposal<\/strong> significantly contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the <strong>issue of material inefficiency across the entire value chain, from design to manufacturing and through to the end-of-life phase of structures<\/strong>, clearly emerges, highlighting the <strong>need for production models capable of reducing waste and maximizing the value of available resources.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>circular economy<\/strong> represents a paradigm shift that rethinks <strong>production<\/strong> at its roots by reducing dependence on <strong>raw materials<\/strong>, extending <strong>product life cycles<\/strong> and introducing <strong>regeneration and automated de-manufacturing<\/strong> logics.<\/p>\n<p>This approach not only improves environmental performance but also <strong>strengthens industrial competitiveness<\/strong> by mitigating cost pressures and increasing the resilience of production systems against the instability of global markets.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>RETHINKING PRODUCTION MODELS FOR MORE RESILIENT MANUFACTURING<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Moving beyond the linear model means designing <strong>production systems<\/strong> capable of managing the entire <strong>product life cycle<\/strong>, including material recovery, reuse and regeneration. This approach helps reduce cost pressures, improve <strong>resource efficiency<\/strong> and increase the <strong>resilience of industrial supply chains<\/strong>, transforming sustainability into a tangible <strong>competitive<\/strong> advantage for European industry.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>CBAM, STEEL AND CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>European <strong>climate policies<\/strong> further reinforce this direction. The <strong>Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)<\/strong> was introduced to address <strong>carbon leakage<\/strong>, rebalance the <strong>global trade model<\/strong> and encourage <strong>lower-carbon production practices<\/strong>.
