Kronos has enabled the company to expand its production potential and to be able to carry out drilling and precision tapping operations directly on the machine, which were previously carried out manually or even outsourced by external partners.

Impressive in terms of size, quality, flexibility and performance: we are talking about the high-performance Kronos gantry line that Piedmont-based Gatta has chosen to enhance its heavy steel construction department.

Technologies and skills also drive innovation in the world of plate processing, populated by a multitude of companies capable of differentiating themselves by offering their experience and specializations. These include realities such as Gatta di Colleretto Giacosa (TO), with a long history behind it (even centuries, given its birth at the dawn of the last century) but which even today, led by the third generation, demonstrate dynamism and enthusiasm to continue to grow, to keep up with the new market requirements and win its challenges. This approach is further enhanced by the ability, which is far from common, to be a qualified partner in the subcontracting of both heavy steel construction and precision plate processing.

From the small cut and bent component to the large electro-welded article

A dual operational soul that began in the nineties and continues today through a diversified production ranging from the small cut and bent part to the electrowelded assembled part weighing several tonnes. Manufactures of high quality, varying complexity, made according to customer drawings (and eventually engineered) in carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

“We are able to produce – says Silvia Gatta, who runs the company together with her brother Marco – from small samples and prototypes to small and medium series”.
A production capacity that, for the heavy steel construction part, has recently been enhanced with the addition of a new CNC automatic gantry drilling and thermal cutting line from Ficep, a Kronos KR 32 SP, complete with:

• 24 x 3.1 m bench

• drilling head with 6-position automatic tool changer

• plasma cutting system

• bevel cutting head for inclined cutting

Efficiency and quality in cutting, bevel cutting, drilling and tapping

Installed about a year ago, the Kronos KR 32 SP automatic CNC gantry line from Ficep was purchased by the Piedmont-based company as a renewal of a plasma cutting system that was considered obsolete, as it was one of the first prototypes equipped with a bevel head that Gatta had pioneered in 2005 at the dawn of this technology.

“After carefully evaluating the various options available on the market – observes Gatta – our choice fell on the Ficep line, which was preferred over other competitors both for its state-of-the-art plasma cutting and bevel head and for the in-line presence of the drilling and tapping head, all real pluses from an operational point of view”. The latter solution has provided significant added value, i.e. the possibility of doing certain machining operations more efficiently and better, and therefore with a competitive and quality advantage.
This new technological integration therefore allows the company to expand its production potential and to be able to carry out drilling and precision tapping operations directly on the machine, which were previously carried out manually or even outsourced by external partners.

Looking to the future

Despite having a long and important history behind it, the Piedmont-based company continues to operate dynamically and with a clear focus on the future and its development.
